  1. what was the deal with such a low crowd in attendance at the Gold Medal match? I would guess there was less than 100 people watching?

    • That’s less than last year I think… Not many people around for any of the finals games.

SVC in Dandenong is not the premier single court venue going around, maybe SVC isn’t the place for the finals round.

  2. I don’t think that SVC is Ideal at all for finals of WAVL. They should start it earlier and have finals on the eve of National Juniors in what ever state is Hosting Juniors, I would bring my team out to come and support the states playing, a good way to energy flowing before juniors. I know that there are Juniors that play AVL, but they had the perth round before juniors this year so what is the difference if they have finals, which are less games anyway.

  3. Did VVI or AVF advertise the finals are on? I didn’t see anything at the social volleyball comp I play in at MSAC.

  4. I saw more advertising for watching online, than reading about what time the games were. Even though I live in perth I can imagine that it was advertised well, as most things in volleyball are not.

    • And when I was watching it online, there were 11 other people doing the same…

We’re not exactly reaching far and wide with this volleyball caper are we?

      • The highest viewer counts were Prelim with 62 viewers and Gold with 76 viewers.

And about ~270 recorded video views since then…

  5. The ironic thing was Chris Schacht (AVF President) commented in his after game speech that volleyball was the second most popular sport in the world.

Looking at such a small crowd, it was hard to depict this as true. I myself have used this statistic… but maybe its time we started to referring to its Australian ranking to bring reality home and reinformce that we still have a long way to go?

PS – i have no idea what this is – any help?

      • Why not add it? The only reason there is a Australian Men’s Volleyball Team entry that is anywhere near up to date is because of OzVolley.

  6. Unfortunately, apart from OzVolley there isn’t much advertised by any of the volleyball associations. If you’re not in the know about an upcoming event then basically you don’t know about it! And you’re more than likely not to find out about it from your local volleyball association. It just seems to be way it’s always been. Even with technology these days, the same message keeps coming back “We didn’t know it was on” Obviously the message isn’t getting through!

    • OzVolley happily advertises any event from any state association or otherwise! The opportunities are there!!!

  7. This all goes back to the same debate held 12+months ago. AVL is a pointless competition that no one outside the players and their immediate families cares about. I bet if the final was Victoria v WA state teams more people would have been there. Uni Blues? Please.

    • I agree 100% with this! For me, Uni Blues just represents Monash and Melbourne Uni, which i see as rivals in our Vic SL. Would be much easily to get those “non-vball” people along if it were marketed as a State team

      • Wasn’t one of the problems with the initial set up of the most recent incarnation of AVL that other State League clubs in Victoria didn’t want to work with anyone else (Falcons) and didn’t have the ability/resource go it alone therefore Melbourne and Monash Uni’s combined resources (as the two best run clubs in the state) to enter a team?

  8. If the expense to set up a Franchise with the AVF was kept by the Franchisee’s and used to promote the teams and the games we wouldn’t have 100 people at the Final. When you pay a Franchise fee you should get Training,Marketing,Support etc from the Franchisor.
Once again the part time Volunteers who do an outstanding job are expected to not only get their teams up but to market the Sport as well.
When are we going to get someone somewhere to recognise that if you do not promote you go backwards.Standing up in front of 100 converted people (the same old faces) in a cold hall out in far off Dandenong telling them that we have the “second most popular sport on the planet” is insulting!
The governing bodies of this sport in this country treat us all with contempt and ignorance.Stop taking money for nothing and start showing leadership and results!

    • WA Pearls, Volleyball SA. QAS and I think Canberra Heat are all state based.
UTSSU, Uni Blues are club/university based.
