Youth World Championships

The Youth World Championships are underway! Check back here to see how our three Australian Teams are doing.

Sam Halliday/Sam Kingston
Lincoln Williams/Nick Anstey
Karley Hynes/Taliqua Clancy

Halliday and Kingston played Boehlé and Nijland of the Netherlands tonight, losing 2-1 (24-22, 17-21, 15-10) in just under an hour. Apparently it was a very close game, and the guys were unlucky not to win the first two sets before being over run in the 3rd. Their tournament is now over.

Williams/Anstey faced Kobernyk-Remezov of Ukraine today, unfortunately they got soundly beaten in the second set after starting off pretty well in the first, they lost 2-0 (21-19, 21-8). They have also lost to Russians Bolgov-Bykanov 2-0 (21-13, 21-10) and again to Austrians Dressler-Petutschnig which puts them out of the tournament.

Hynes/Clancy have defeated Zhang CH. N.-Wang Fan of China. They won a tight 3 setter 1-2 (19-21, 21-14, 10-15). They have just played Mariana-Joana, the Portuguese top seeds and won the game 1-2 (21-18, 19-21, 5-15) which guarantees them passage into the next round.
The girls have now won three from three, defeating Americans Dykstra-Strehlow 2-1 (21-17, 19-21, 15-13). They now take their place in the next round as the top place getter in their pool.

Early surprise results are seeing top qualifying seeds Strobel-Wolf of Germany lose to Halanda-Podstupka of Slovakia 0-2 (19-21, 19-21) showing that, as always, you cannot trust the seedings of ANY junior tournament.
