My bad on originally writing that it was a 19-man squad…
Argentina defeated Australia 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-21) in the final match of the two mini series played in Argentina over the past week.
What would be a good result for us at the World Champs?
We seem to have a mixture of senior and some young ‘guns’ in the team – do the young guns have enough overseas exposure – knowing that most of these guys play in the European Leagues, how would this rate compared to actually playing in the high level International Competition such as the World Champs?
4 setters do seem too many for my liking.
Tough question meme, where do you think Aus will finish?
Our guys just aren’t playing at the same level of competition as other countries are. Igor, Hardy, Roberts and Carroll are obviously at a very high level. But on the flipside of that, we have our Liberos either returning from injury (hopefully Aden hits form and fitness), or from the tute, so high level match practice will be a bit lean. Most of the other guys are in the second tier European leagues (I assume this, I haven’t been able to watch a lot of ball, so I can’t really comment on the quality of the leagues).
4 setters will be cut down in the final squad, we wont take 4 into the champs.
yeah, they’re not the Oz women’s team after all

I haven’t seen anything recently that would make me want to update this ranking of European leagues.

They could go with 4 setters… Shane Alexander played as a passer hitter last week against Tunisia when the team was “depleated”. And i think i remember seeing Brett Alderman play as a passer in the 2002 world champs when there was an injury.
